What time of year do you operate Cycle Tours?
From late October (mid Spring) until end of April (mid Autumn)
What happens if we encounter bad weather and are unable to cycle?
The weather on the South Island can be quite changeable, sometimes with 4 seasons in one day. We are in touch with you every day and evening with weather and trail updates. If due to inclement weather we need to we will go to Plans B, C, or D. With The Jollie Biker you will never be stranded or abandoned on the trail. Your comfort and safety is important to us.
What is the best way to get to Twizel to start our Ride?
The closest airports are Queenstown or Christchurch. Intercity Bus services operate from both destinations; From Queenstown depart at 08.05am and arrive in Twizel at 11.30am From Christchurch depart at 08.30am and arrive in Twizel at 1.30pm You will need to book at least one nights accomodation prior. The Jollie Biker is happy to assist with this.
How much of the Trail is on major highways?
At the moment, there is the ride over the Otematata Saddle, an 11km section on State Highway 83 between Sailors Cutting and Otematata which is on road. Hi Vis clothing is recommended for this ride. The new trail build is in progress and due for completion end of 2020, this will then be one of the most amazing sections to cycle on, adding yet another stunning days riding to the Alps2Ocean Cycle Trail
How fit do I need to be to ride the trail?
Almost anyone wth a moderate level of fitness and some cycling experience can ride the Trail. While it is not a hardcore MTB trail, it is not flat either, with a varying degree of inclines and declines. There is a variety of surfaces from sealed road to loose gravel. It is highly recommended that you have prior experience riding on loose gravel.
Do I need the Helicopter transfer across from Aoraki/Mt Cook?
Yes, to start at Aoraki/MtCook there is no other way to cross the Tasman River.
How many people per group?
There are 13 set departure dates for the 2020/21 season. The maximum size for these groups are 10 people, to keep it small and personal. If you have a group of 4 or more friends we can tailor make a trip for you (dependant on accommodation/services availability)

Do you have a Covid19 cancellation policy?
If a trip needs to be cancelled due to Covid19 travel restrictions you will only be charged a $50.00 per person Administration Fee
